From surprising beginings to inspiring Ideas : Tech innovation at the Brook International School

Starting the Innovation Journey

At Funlearn, we recently had the joy of starting a tech innovation journey with learners from The Brook International School. Our first session was led by our wonderful instructor, Mrs. Martha. Right from the start, it was clear that the students were curious but new to the idea of tech innovation. In a warm-up activity, Martha asked the class to identify problems in their community and brainstorm solutions. At first, the students weren’t sure what problems they faced—but one of them, Clive, broke the ice with a surprising answer: poverty.

When we asked them for solutions, their response gave us a laugh and a lot to think about. As a Christian school, The Brook students hold strong Christian values, so their answer was, “The blood of Jesus!” While we had a little chuckle, we also agreed—faith is important, but we need practical solutions too! And so, we began our journey into tech innovation.

Learning the Basics of Tech Innovation
With our founder, Baliira Rodney, stepping in to guide the class, we started from square one, exploring why tech innovation matters and how it can make a real difference. The students dove into design thinking, problem-solving, and imagining how technology could create positive change.

The Big Ideas
After brainstorming and building their knowledge, the students came up with three fantastic ideas that showed their creativity and care for their community:

  1. Talented – This platform helps students showcase their talents. It’s designed to connect talented students with those searching for young talent, promoting and supporting these gifts right from school!

  2. International School Delivery – This platform makes school-related shopping easy for everyone! Whether it’s parents, students, or the school itself, they can connect with suppliers, order school essentials online, and enjoy hassle-free delivery.

  3. Enrolled – With a big vision to transform education, this platform uses smart technology to stream live classroom experiences. It’s perfect for students who can’t be in class, like those in the hospital, or busy adults who want to learn. Equipped with smart cameras that follow teachers’ movements, it brings the classroom experience directly to those who need it, anytime, anywhere.

Bringing Ideas to Life
These ideas were much more advanced than where we started, and we couldn’t be prouder! After choosing their concepts, each group learned how to conduct market research, create wireframes, and even prototype their solutions. Now, every group has built a working MVP (Minimum Viable Product), and they’re just getting started!

Looking to the Future
Watching these students grow has been amazing, and the future is bright! We’ll keep you updated on their journey, so stay tuned for more. At Funlearn, we believe in teaching digital art, IT, and innovation in a way that’s simple, fun, and practical. We have plenty of inspiring stories from our learners—and more to come!
